Neil Davis and Steve Peplin Guitar Duo & Harmonious Wail

Feb 14, 2026

Overview

It’s as simple as two guitars and a stage. Neil Davis and Steve Peplin are accomplished musicians in their own right, but when they play together, the music comes to life. Performing inventive original pieces and refreshing takes on standards in a style all their own, the duo has gained an outstanding reputation in Milwaukee’s Jazz scene and beyond. Described as having, “a lyrical sound that suggests Grant Green and Jim Hall,” by the Shepherd Express the duo plays in a unique setup that often finds Peplin playing both guitar and drums.

The members of Harmonious Wail are purveyors of Americana-infused Gypsy Jazz, who continue to take their listeners on a ride via the music of the Hot Club sounds of Parisian cafes, to the deepest blues of the Memphis Delta, to the heartfelt folk scenes across every-town-America. This harmonious clique are sublime entertainers, great educators, and lifters of spirits. A trio of multi-award winning musicians, the heart of the Wail is Racine Native, Sims Delaney-Potthoff, a mandolin virtuoso, and vocalist, Maggie Delaney-Potthoff, whose percussive instrument of choice is a cardboard box, and they round out the trio with a world-class bassist.

Jean’s Jazz Series

For the past 25 years, Jean’s Jazz has opened our ears and our hearts to all facets of music within the genre of jazz. The Racine Theatre Guild stage is transformed into an intimate jazz club four times a year just for you. As we prepare for another great season, we are ready to explore even more smooth, swanky, and soulful jazz with new and familiar artists.

In 2001, Joe Mooney created the Jean’s Jazz Series in memory of his wife, Jean, who passed away from ovarian cancer. Since then, over 25,000 people have attended our concerts, grossing over $140,000 to benefit the Racine Theatre Guild. Jean’s love of the Theatre Guild and her love of Jazz inspired a series that has truly enriched the community.
