The Play That Goes Wrong
The Racine Theatre Guild will be holding open auditions for The Play That Goes Wrong on Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, June 23 at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE SHOW
A smashing success where everything, quite literally, comes crashing down as the curtain attempts to rise on the Cornley Drama Society’s ill-fated opening night of “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” Throughout the night, things go from bad to catastrophically disastrous as the leading lady is knocked unconscious, the corpse can’t play dead, the crew are thrown into battle, and the actors trip over everything – including their own lines. It’s nothing you want in a show—and everything you want in a show as anything that can go wrong, absolutely will with theatrical flair. Chaos ensues in one of the funniest play-within-a-play productions ever to gloriously fail in full view of any audience.
ROLES / CASTING INFO
Looking for a diverse cast of any and all ethnicities and backgrounds. No experience is necessary to be part of the production. All roles are open to individuals 18 and older.
PLEASE NOTE: This show is physically demanding. Most roles require varying amounts of crawling, balancing, climbing, lifting, running, and/or falling.
- Annie: The company’s stage manager. She is generally able to solve problems quickly. When she has to substitute as the leading lady, she goes from nervous to confident to downright competitive.
- Sandra: Plays Florence Colleymoore. Vain and has a huge ego. She wants to be loved. She has ambitions to go to Hollywood and will hurt anyone standing in the way of what she wants, but is smart enough to stay on the good side of someone who can help her
- Trevor: The company’s lighting and sound operator. He simply wants to get on with the show. He doesn’t like actors. He is easily distracted and does many things he shouldn’t, including talking to the audience.
- Chris: The head of the drama society, a first-time director and plays Inspector Carter. This is the biggest day of his life. He is rigid and uptight. The experience of performing the show is both nerve-wracking and exciting.
- Jonathan: Plays Charles Haversham. Poor guy. He’s been cast as a corpse but has trouble playing dead. A bit bland personality-wise but sees himself as a James Bond-type.
- Robert: Plays Thomas Colleymoore. Wants to be Richard Burton, as evidenced by his presentational style. But he’s not a parody of a bad actor, just unaware of others around him.
- Dennis: Plays Perkins. Has no real desire to be involved in the theatre; he just wants friends. He believes if he does well in the show, he’ll be more successful socially.
- Max: Plays Cecil Haversham and Aruthur the Garnder. Has never been onstage before. He learned his lines and does exactly what he’s told to do. Childlike and naïve.
Extras
- Stage Crew: The Cornley Drama Society stage crew
