Queens & Kings of Soul

The Racine Theatre Guild will be holding open auditions for the first Signature Spotlight concert of the season, Queens & Kings of Soul on Monday, August 31 from 6 – 9 p.m.

ABOUT THE SHOW

The iconic pioneer artists of soul music, legendary figures like Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, James Brown, and Gladys Knight shaped the sound of rhythm and blues through powerful vocals and timeless records. From Motown to hip-hop, these influential artists created music that changed America and continues to inspire generations. Experience the rich history, soaring vocals, and unforgettable live performances that celebrate the voices and songs that continue to move audiences today.

Singers/ CASTING INFO

Director Monica Fegans is looking for black, indigenous, and men, male-presenting, women, female-presenting, and nonbinary individuals of color, ages 18 and above, for this cabaret performing as soloists. In addition, one Spotlight Star, a local high schooler freshman through senior, will be featured as part of the concert and can audition as well. No duets for the auditions will be accepted; however, the director may be programming duets for those who are chosen to perform.

AUDITION INFORMATION

Individuals of all levels of experience and backgrounds are invited to audition. Performers must sign-up for an audition time and should bring sheet music for two song cuts that fit the style and genre of music. Be prepared to sing the pieces you’d like to perform in keys that best reflect your voice type.

An accompanist will be provided or auditionees can have provide backtracks through a link or device that can be connected via Bluetooth.

The director will choose either one or both of the songs that individuals audition with and may assign new songs for the concert as well. Performers must audition as soloists – no duets/trios/quartets. All songs should be performance ready.

Schedules

Rehearsal Schedule

Rehearsals will only take place the week of September 28 – October 2, 2026. Performers will be required to attend a coaching with the director prior to the rehearsal process. Coachings will be scheduled based on director/performer availability.

Performances: Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 2 and 7 p.m.
