God of Carnage

The Racine Theatre Guild will be holding open auditions for God of Carnage on Monday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE SHOW

A civilized discussion about a playground encounter concerning their sons unravels into feral chaos between two pairs of parents in a brilliant and biting comedy of manners without manners. Navigating the most dangerous place on earth – parenthood – civility crumbles and secrets are spilled as the adults devolve into childish behavior complete with fingerpointing and name-calling. The hilariously dark Tony Award-winning hit explores the fragile rules of neighborly decorum and the animalistic impulses buried within each of us.

ROLES / CASTING INFO

God of Carnage is a four person ensemble piece with all four actors onstage for the majority of the production and carrying a substantial amount of dialogue. Actors should be prepared for a significant line load and an accelerated memorization schedule, with the expectation of being off book early in the rehearsal process.

Looking for a diverse cast of performers of any and all ethnicities and backgrounds. No experience is necessary to be part of the production.

Open to ages 30s – 50

Female/Female Presenting

  • Annette Raleigh: At first she presents herself as an elite member of the one percent, but she is perpetually on the brink of panic. Her self-confidence has been eroded by her husband Alan’s preoccupation with work. Please note: the role of Annette includes a staged vomiting effect, and the actor should be comfortable performing this moment.
  • Veronica Novak: A writer who sees herself as a champion of social conscience and common courtesy, but is in reality judgmental and domineering. As the situation unravels, she fails to maintain her crumbling façade of civility.

Male/Male Presenting

  • Alan Raleigh: An openly rude corporate lawyer, he frequently interrupts their meeting by taking calls on his cell phone. As he says, “I have no manners.” Initially cool and aloof, he always acts in his own self-interest.
  • Michael Novak: Initially eager to keep the peace, his crude nature gradually emerges. He devolves from a seemingly good-natured hardware store owner into a neurotic Neanderthal.
